Right now, on my mind I have a scene described in a book about the second world war. The scene was about the times when people were held captive in war camps. Before arriving at the camp, they were loaded onto trains and told to leave all their belongings behind, their luggage, all their personal effects, even their own clothing. Some items left behind, as you would imagine, were of financial value (jewellery, gold), some of emotional value (photographs), others of practical value (tools, books, knowledge).
